BASELINE - WITH EMMA LUNG

At P.E Nation, we’ve always aspired to create our brand for all women. To be worn all day, every day. P.E Nation Baseline underpins our P.E creativity with a strong core. It is high-performance, premium quality and made to fit into any lifestyle, any day, anywhere. It is also our most sustainable basics collection yet. These are your go-to favourites, both supportive and easy-to-wear to help you make the most of every day.

When considering our P.E Nation muses, the common thread of those who inspired, was that they were all strong, independent women that manage their busy lives with an unwavering dedication to their families, and to keeping themselves and those around them healthy and happy.

Over the coming months, we will highlight six incredible women we admire, that will become the faces of our P.E Nation Baseline. Truth, embracing life’s setbacks, creating balance, the importance of spending time in nature, and a deep love for family and friends power these everyday women that are doing it all. Simply put, getting back to basics.

Our third muse is the beguiling, Emma Lung. An award-winning actor that has been gracing our screens since her youth, offering searing performances and solidifying her place in the film and television industry as a powerful storyteller.

Now heavily involved in film-making herself, from conception through to delivery, Emma’s quest for truth in everything she does has paid off. After experiencing an unexpected career set-back after the birth of her son, Emma has had to cultivate resilience one-step at a time and her fortitude and ability to re-invent herself inspires us. Now on the precipice of realising one of her most rewarding career experiences to-date, we feel like the best is yet to come for this endlessly fascinating woman

For Emma, the basics are her foundation. Family, the inspirational women in her life, the simplicity of a long walk and reading a great book are all things that propel her forward and help her to navigate her ever-changing life. We asked Emma to let us in on what motivates her day-to-day and here is what she said:

What or who do you define as your core, your core purpose? That’s a difficult question for me to answer as my core purpose has changed from life in school, to life after school, to life after a child. In essence, I would say I strive for truth above all else. Truth in my work. Truth in my relationships. Truth as I evolve. My honesty with myself is confronting and at times overwhelming, but I value the reflection emphatically.

What is your greatest personal passion?
My son. My husband. My family. My friends. My work. My play.

What makes you thrive personally?
Being busy.

What is your greatest professional passion? What makes you thrive professionally?
My husband and I have been working on a film that we will make in the spring of 2020. He will direct it and I will act in it. We have spent the last five years immersed in that world. Henry has written it and I have script edited and I have loved every minute of that experience. I imagine for a lot of people that painstaking process would seem arduous, but for me that world that we have created is as real as the one I live in.

How do you use your unique voice and platform to share your vision?
In all honesty, I lost my voice after having a baby. I had worked consistently as an actor from the moment I left high school until half way through my pregnancy and after that the work stopped. Swiftly and harshly. It nearly broke me. It has taken until now to finally understand who I am as both a mother and an actor and where to place myself within an industry that wasn’t willing to accept me as both. I feel more sure of my voice now than I ever have in my life. I look forward to evolving on an ever changing platform.

Where does your inspiration come from? Much of my inspiration is driven from the women in my life. My mother. My girlfriends. Honourable mention to my husband, my father and my brother. There is so much power and motivation that I gain from their input and support. I also read quite a lot which certainly inspires my life and ambition.

How do you keep going despite real life/mum/work/relationship jugggles? Sometimes it feels near impossible trying to manage it all, but my son needs me and so I soldier on as best I can because there is no other option but to.

If you can, what do you do for you every day?
Go for a long walk on my own. Read. Write.

What do you do to take things back to basics?
Get into the car and head upstate. Nature has a way of calming me to clarity faster than anything else.

What is on the horizon for you? What is that silver lining?
We are slated to shoot our film next year. The silver lining is that we get to make something that is entirely ours.

What sparks joy in you?
Conversations with my four year old. Playing the piano.

If you had one dream that could become a reality tomorrow, what would that be?
At the risk of sounding like an 80’s pageant contestant... world peace ?
